Blue Wilderness’ shark volunteer and shark intern participants learn snorkeling, diving and scientific techniques to collect data that is vital to the management of some of the world’s vulnerable shark species. As well as shark diving and snorkeling with five species of sharks, shark volunteers get the chance to work in the Aliwal Shoal Marine Protected Area, one of South Africa most pristine and important marine biodiversity hotspots. As a shark volunteer, you will directly contribute to the conservation, research and education programmes on Blue Wilderness's shark volunteer and internship program.

2000 USD/month

This last month was the best of my life! I spent around 20 days snorkeling and diving with blacktips and raggies, the team taught my how to collect data and video footage of the sharks and environment. Also talking to and educating the guests made me know that I was helping in changing perceptions towards sharks. Totally awesome

A totally awesome experience – shark, sharks and more SHARKS! For me, the best part (other than the shark diving) was having the chance to talk sharks to the local school kids and see their perception changes. Totally stoked I did this program

I have had a passion for sharks for as long as I can remember! Not been able to formally study marine biology made me feel I could not help with their conservation. But this all changed with Blue Wilderness! Not only did I have a month of diving with sharks, but I now know how I can continue to make my contribution to their conservation.

Every shark ecotourism company should contribute to shark research, education and conservation. Our shark volunteer program does exactly that. Through their projects the Blue Wilderness shark volunteers make a huge contribution to the conservation of South Africa’s sharks.
